Nona Lou Ubben

Nona Lou Petersen Cox Ubben, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away on August 13, 2024 in Concord, CA. She was born September 25, 1930 in Cache Valley, Utah to Clarence Lehi Petersen and Hedwig Louise Bitter. Nona was raised in Sacramento, CA and graduated from CK McClatchy Senior High School. Nona married her high school boyfriend Stanley Alan Cox on October 30, 1948 and had Daryl and Bonnie soon thereafter. Nona and Stan happily raised their children in Sacramento, CA until Stan and Daryl’s untimely death in 1971. Nona has cherished memories of her marriage and home life with Stan and has mourned his and Daryl’s deaths every day since. Nona then met Ned Evans Ubben in 1975 and were married 30 years. Nona is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Ken) Carter and stepchildren Ruth (Oliver) Betty (Don) and Steve (Miyo). Nona has four grandchildren Janelle (Alex), April (JM), Ryan (Jackie), and Jameson (Dessie), 7 step grandchildren, and well over a dozen great grandchildren.

 

Nona was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the associations she made there. She particularly loved her scripture study group, walking group, investment club, and her callings at church. She will be remembered as a loyal and devoted friend to all her knew her. Many of her friendships lasted 50, 60, 70 years or longer. Nona worked at Fruitridge Elementary School as a Principal’s assistant for over a decade, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her as an early adopter of technology to maintain daily contact in their lives.

 

A viewing will be held Thursday, August 29 at 10:15 with the funeral directly after at 11am at 1360 Alberta Way Concord, CA 94521. Interment will happen at Oddfellows Lawn and Mausoleum in Sacramento, CA.
