Nora M. Taylor Alexander
February 21st, 1918 - October 13th, 2018
Nora M. Taylor Alexander, 100, of Kingsport passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Four Oaks Health Care Center, Jonesborough, TN. Nora was born on February 21, 1918 in Princeton, West Virginia to the late Peter and Nora Booher Martin. After the sudden passing of her mother Nora went to live with her uncle Abe Booher and aunt Lillian Booher in Johnson City, TN. Nora graduated from Langston High School in Johnson City, class of 1935. She then attended Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tn. In 1937, she married the love of her life, Jason B. Taylor. They settled in Kingsport. During the late 1940's thru mid 1960's they operated Art Dry Cleaners. This was the only Black-owned business in downtown Kingsport during that time. They also operated the Dairy Mart in Riverview. Later Nora was employed at Eastman, retiring in 1984. She loved working in her flower garden. She loved entertaining her friends. She loved her bridge club, "The Regalett's'". Most of all, she loved playing the piano. She and Jill Ellis were quite a team at Bethel AME Zion Church making beautiful church music. Finally, she became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was the choir director until she became ill. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Jason B. Taylor; former husband, Thomas E. Alexander; infant daughter, Elizabeth Taylor; uncle Abe Booher and aunt Lillian Booher; and 6 children from her husband’s previous marriage. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Brenda J. Stuts; son, Ronald L. Taylor; grandchildren, Norma Lee Gray, Clay Leeper, Frances Davis, and Patricia Calloway; close cousins, Carolyn Newman and Angelo Newman; and members of the Hardy family. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 12pm to 1pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1026 Maple St., Kingsport, TN 37660. A funeral service will follow. To all her caregivers: Annie Johnson Family, Amy Carter, Gay Quansah, Margaret Johnson, Kawana Kiser, Belinda Keller and LaVonda Price, "Thank you for the care and love shown to our Mother." In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1026 Maple St., Kingsport, TN 37660 in Nora’s memory. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Four Oaks Health Care Center, Jonesborough, TN. Carter Trent Funeral Home, Downtown Kingsport is serving the Taylor-Alexander Family.
