Nora Hooten
May 31st, 1919 - May 31st, 2015
Honora Kate Gaffney Navin “Nora” Hooten passed away suddenly on May 31, 2015 at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. She was 96 years old. She lived independently at Panorama in Chinook Hall the last 20 years as she wished, and passed away as she desired before turning 100 years old. She felt that she had seen and done everything that was needed to be seen and done so there was no reason for her to see the additional years it took to reach a 100. Nora was born in England on May 31, 1919, but soon afterwards her family immigrated to Canada and then moved to Washington State where they settled in Black Diamond. Her parents, Annie Ogden Gaffney and John Joseph Gaffney, and uncles, Jack, Bob and Bert, who immigrated with them from both Ireland and England, brought much joy and laughter in her life, along with her brother, Bob, and sister, Dorothy. They have all passed on so she was looking forward to seeing them again when it was her turn. She married Ray John Navin who passed away from a construction accident while their daughters where rather young. Several years later, she met and married Max Hooten. Nora loved growing up in Washington but enjoyed traveling also. She took both her daughters to Europe as small children to live with their father who was stationed there. She also loved to travel with Delsie and Muriel all over the U.S., having been to California, Alaska and Hawaii many times, as well as traveling to Ireland to visit family members. Between trips she participated in her many hobbies – gardening, politics, reading, sewing and crocheting. She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Gary Aylward) and Maureen (Pat McNeil); five grandchildren, Tammy, Terresa, Danny, Kevin and Ryan; four great grandchildren, Zachary, Alex, Brendin and Raelyn. There are many nieces, cousins and friends she has made over the years who will miss her greatly. A small family celebration of her life is planed but no memorial service is being held as per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, our family asks that you make a donation in her name to a charity close to your heart. Please leave memories of Nora or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
