Noreen T. Marino, 85, of Hall Avenue in Johnstown, passed away on Jan. 23, 2016, after a brief illness. She was born Nora Teresa Grace on July 23, 1930, to Nora Slattery and John Grace, in Fall River, Mass. Noreen's parents emigrated from Ireland to England and then to the United States in the early 20th century. They settled in the Bronx, where her father worked for the freight railroad system. Noreen graduated from Cathedral High School in Manhattan in 1948, and from the Grace Institute, a job training program for women in New York City, in 1950. She later performed clerical work in the corporate office of Bradley, Voorhees and Day in the Empire State Building. In 1953 Noreen attended a dance sponsored by the National Catholic Community Service in Manhattan, where she met her future husband, Jack J. Marino. They were married in The Church of Saint Athanasius in the Bronx on Nov. 20, 1954, and settled in Gloversville. Noreen and Jack were married for 60 years when he predeceased her in 2014. Noreen was a homemaker from the time of her marriage until the late-1970s, when she served as a teacher's aide at Boulevard Elementary School. In 1977, Noreen was hired as Office Manager at the newly-opened Lexington Day Treatment Center at the former Bishop Burke High School. She was promoted to Assistant to the Director, and retired at age 73 after 26 years of service. Noreen is survived by her five children and their spouses, Noreen and Neal Collins of Clifton Park; Patricia and Ron Robinson of Johnstown; Peter Marino and Aaron Broadwell of Gainesville, Fla.; Thomas Marino and Diana Lee of Manhattan; and Andrew Marino and Megan Allen of Delanson. Noreen is survived by her great-granddaughter, Grace Robinson, of Liverpool. Also surviving are Noreen's grandchildren - who affectionately knew her as "Nana Nor" and "Nai Nai:" Jack B. Marino, of Delanson; Julianna Lee-Marino of Providence, R.I.; Daniel Robinson and his wife, Michelle Robinson, of Liverpool; Ellen Robinson of Zurich, Switzerland; step-granddaughter Roni Robinson of Venice Beach, CA; Alyssa Valente of Scranton, PA; Matt Valente of Pittsburgh; and Sean and Brett Valente of Clifton Park. She is also survived by her brother, Frank Slattery, of Edgewater Park, Bronx, and many nieces and nephews. Noreen was predeceased by her youngest granddaughter, Monica Grace Allen. She was also predeceased by her step-grandson, Cory Collins, and her siblings, John Grace, Ellen McGee, and Mary Sullivan. Noreen's children would like to express their gratitude to Dr. George Weis, of Amsterdam Family Practice, and Mountain Valley Hospice for enabling her to spend her final days at home. Friends are invited to call from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A memorial service celebrating Noreen's life will follow immediately after. It was Noreen's request that any donations in her honor be made in memory of her granddaughter, Monica Allen, to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. Contributions can be made online at http://www.phassociation.org/ or mailed to PHA, 801 Roeder Road, Ste. 1000, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Please visit the online memorial at www.brbsfuneral.com
