October 11th, 1932 - March 19th, 2014
Norma Uvas "Nene" Bernas of Waukesha passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 81 years. She was born on October 11, 1932, in Romblon, Romblon Philippines, the daughter of Rufo L. and Josefa (nee Mayor) Uvas. She graduated from the University of the East Philippines in 1956. On April 28, 1958, Norma was united in marriage in Quezon City, Philipines to Dr. Alex A. Bernas. The family moved to Africa in 1968, where they lived until 1970, immigrating to the United States, and settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Norma and Dr. Alex raised their family in Whitefish Bay and River Hills. Later in life the couple lived in Las Vegas, Nevada and Jacksonville, Florida. After Dr. Alex passed away in 1998, Norma moved to Waukesha. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church. Norma enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, especially on cruises, going to the casino, dining with friends and family, and was known for her shopping. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Norma is survived by her son, Peter U. Bernas; her daughters, Annabelle B. (Edgar C.) Crisostomo, and Arlene B. (Brian G.) Webb; her grandchildren, Kaylyn M. Webb, Alex J. Webb, Alana B. Crisostomo, and Aaron B. Crisostomo. Norma is further survived by brother, Jeno M. (Ada C.) Uvas; sister-in-law, Victoria B. Uvas; nieces & nephews, Mariebeth U. Zablan, Jeno C. Uvas Jr.,Charlston C. Uvas, Melissa B. Uvas, Arnold B. Uvas and Linus B. Uvas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Alex A. Bernas and brother Rufo M. Uvas Jr. The visitation for Norma will be held at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home (237 N. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha, WI 53188) on Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary. A second visitation will be held Monday, March 31, at St. William Catholic Church (440 N. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha, WI 53188), from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The Rev. Curt Frederick will be officiating. The entombment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
