Norman C. Barstow
March 10th, 1943 - August 7th, 2017
"Hadley - Norman C. Barstow Jr., 74, passed away on August 7, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Northampton, MA, son of the late Norman C., Sr. and Margaret (Greene) Barstow, Norm was a lifelong resident of Hadley and a member of the Hadley Cemetery Commission as well as co-chaired the committee for the Hadley Public Safety Complex. He was an active 60-year member of the First Congregational Church of Hadley. He retired in 2010 from Hardigg Industries in South Deerfield as the chief packaging engineer where he worked for 50 years. He was inducted into the Military Packaging Hall of Fame in California. Norm will be deeply missed by his wife of 52 years, Janet (Rosenthal) Barstow of Hadley and two children, Matthew Barstow and his wife Diane of Hatfield and Susan Martin of South Hadley. He also leaves a brother, Harry "Hank" Barstow and his wife Tess of Hadley, two sisters, Robin Bialecki and husband Val of Easthampton and Janet Anderson of Hadley. Norm is also survived by two grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Katie. Calling hours will be Friday, August 11, 2017 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:00am at the First Congregational Church of Hadley. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Hadley, 102 Middle St., Hadley, MA 01035 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
