Norman L. Bowne
December 1st, 1921 - September 24th, 2011
Norman L. Bowne, 89, of Wall Street, passed away Saturday morning at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after being stricken at home on Thursday. Born December 1, 1921 in Ozone Park, Long Island, New York, he was the son of the late Langford John and Elizabeth Huber Bowne. Norman lived most of his life in Cobleskill, NY. He was a graduate of Saugerties High School of 1942 and later he graduated from State University of NY at Cobleskill, with an Associate?s Degree in Agriculture. Norman was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He served as a Surgical Technician and Combat Medic in Central Europe, Northern France, and the Rhineland. Norman was employed as a Dairy Inspector for Dairy Lee, Borden and last as a Dairy Products Specialist for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. He was a parishioner of St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. Norman enjoyed woodworking, reading and his computer. On June 17, 1943 he married the former Marjorie Fake. Besides his wife of 68 years of marriage, he is survived by a daughter, Judy Furman Richard of Fort Johnson, NY; two granddaughters, Melissa Metzger of Amsterdam and Jennifer Smith Col. Dennis, U.S. Army of Carlisle, PA; five great grandchildren, Christopher, Owen, Sam, Jack and Natalie; several nieces and nephews survive. Norman was predeceased by a son, Jeffery Bowne who passed away on May 3, 2000. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11:00am at the St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Corner of Pine and Division Streets, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. John Califano officiating. Burial of Norman?s cremated remains will take place in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery, Friday, September 30, 2011 at 1:00pm, with Military Honors. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Norman?s memory to St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 East Main Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
