Olga Diachok Snow

Olga Diachok Snow passed peacefully at home surrounded by her two sons, David Brian Snow and Douglas Bishop Snow, and, caregiver Mary Bortolotto. Olga was the fifth of six children of Onufry Diachok and Mary Lucachick. Onufry was a new immigrant from Ukraine and while Mary was born in the U.S. after her parents immigrated from Poland. Olga grew up on 100 acres of homestead farmland in northern Minnesota. The 1930’s were difficult times and Olga was determined to make a life away from her rural beginnings. She attended the University of Iowa and was trained and worked as a medical technologist during marriage. She landed in Point Loma in 1960 with her Navy officer and beloved husband, David Russell Snow, and two children. They needed to compromise on their combined religious affiliation and joined All Souls Episcopal Church. Olga and David embraced the church and helped the parish immensely in the construction of the current church building that opened in 1969. Olga twice held the position of Senior Warden for the church, and held multiple other leadership roles at All Souls as well as the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. Referred to by fellow parishioners, or just self-proclaimed, as “Saint Olga”, Olga was not a shy retiring personality but more well known for speaking her mind, whether or not you cared to hear about it. After you got past the bluster, many people sought counsel from Olga and have spoken openly about the positive impact she brought to their lives. For years Olga wore her well coiffed hair with a small long braid down her neck, as a declaration of her independence from conformity. Bright colored lipstick, usually a deep pink was standard for her when going out and about with friends and family. Olga is survived by her sons Brian and Doug, and, four grand children, Colin Hawley-Snow, Sarah Hawley-Snow, Grace Snow and Carol Williams, and, sister Donna Price from Apple Valley MN. Proud of her Ukrainian heritage, Olga loved to celebrate Christmas on the “real” Christmas Day of January 7th as celebrated by the Russian Orthodox Church. We will be celebrating her life on January 7, 2019, at All Souls Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by the internment of her ashes next to her husband David, who predeceased Olga in 2006. A reception will immediately follow at the Thursday Club in Point Loma. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to All Souls Episcopal Church.
