Opal N. Cummings
August 11th, 1918 - October 3rd, 2015
Opal Nadine Cummings was born on August 11, 1918 to James David and Allie (Alkire) Shelley in Brady near Gothenberg, Nebraska. Opal spent her entire life in Gothenberg working as a waitress and raising two boys. In 1960, she met Floyd Cummings, a travelling salesman who stopped at her restaurant. They married April 27, 1961 and moved to Greeley, where they both lived the rest of their lives. She worked as a waitress the majority of the time at the Red Steer in Lucerne, CO. She retired in 1978 when they moved to their house at the Highland Hills Golf Course. Throughout their years in Greeley, both Opal and Floyd, were avid University of Colorado fans, having football season tickets for 40-plus years. She loved her family, especially the grandchildren, road trips and her home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed. Healthy throughout her entire life, she passed after suffering a sudden stroke. Opal is survived by three children, Randy (Jeanette), Rick (Kay), Renee (Preston); five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and nine of her ten brothers and sisters. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to "Hospice of Northern Colorado” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.adamsonchapels.com.
