Orlando Brown
October 27th, 1938 - November 3rd, 2019
Orlando Brown, age 81, of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Orlando is preceded in death by his parents Eli and Cleofas Brown, and sister Eloisa Gallegos. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diolinda (Dollye) Brown; daughters Monica (Lawrence) and Phyllis (Edward); grandchildren Estevan, Fabian (Mallorie), Estrella, Lisa (Ricardo), Gina, Rocky (Fran); nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister Roselia (Ross). He was born October 27, 1938, in Las Tablas, NM. He graduated from McCurdy High School in 1958. He then attended Westmar University and obtained a Bachelor's of Arts in 1962. He also obtained a Master's of Arts at New Mexico Highlands University in 1972. Orlando was a professor and football coach at McCurdy High School, Eastern New Mexico University, and New Mexico Highlands University. He was also responsible for bringing the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) to Las Vegas, NM, which he was the Director for many years. He taught and was the Assistant Principal at Pojoaque High School. He was also the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Las Vegas. Orlando enjoyed spending time with his family, travelling, fishing, woodworking, and cheering on his Denver Broncos. He believed in living life to the fullest and never passing up opportunities. He was a devoted family man that adored his loved ones. His kindness, guidance, and generosity was a gift to all of the lives he touched. Our family's gratitude is endless, and our love is boundless to everyone who has reached out and been there for us. Special thank you to Ambercare Hospice, Professional Home Health Care and Riverside Funeral Home of Santa Fe. A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019, beginning at 9:00 am at Immaculate Conception Parish in Las Vegas, NM. Burial services will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in El Llano, NM at 2:00 pm.
