Orphia Badgley

Orphia Johnson Badgley, age 95, of Sutter Creek, Calif. passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, January 10, 2015. Orphia was born in Hillside, Montana to Ole and Allie Johnson, the youngest of 5 sisters. She attended school and graduated from Cohagen High School in 1936 and headed off to a year of college. She moved to California where she met and married Dale Badgley. They made their home in San Lorenzo, Calif. And she worked as an executive secretary at Kaiser Steel Corporation in Oakland for 25 years. After retirement Orphia and Dale moved to Sutter Creek, Calif, where they designed and oversaw the building of their retirement home. Orphia was an expert seamstress, sewing most of her clothes from Vogue patters and top notch material. The walls of her home were decorated with needle point pictures, and anything that caught her eye as cute, she framed it. She was proud of her garden and flowers, keeping up an acre of land that included a fruit orchard. Orphia and Dale belonged to an RV group and traveled extensively all over the United States. She loved vacationing with her nieces, Betty, Myrna, Jane and Joyce, whether it be cruising or going overseas. She loved visiting family in Norway, seeing the place where her father was born and visiting cousins. She was an excellent host, throwing family and friends dinner parties and hosting card parties with local friends. Orphia is survived by nieces and nephews, Betty, Myrna, Jane, Joyce, Kay, Brenda, Marcene, Paula, Billy, Verne, Ronald, Lloyd and Larry and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Dale in 2007, sisters Gladys "Happy" Fleming, Clella McWilliams, Cordella McKinney and Irene Nolan, and nephews, Wayne, Dean and Curtis. At her request, there will be no services. She will be interned in Miles City, Montana. Any donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association.
