Orville "Andy" Anderson
September 8th, 1935 - December 24th, 2014
Retired CHP patrolman Orville "Andy" Anderson, age 79, of Pioneer, CA, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson. Orville was born in Oroville, CA on September 8, 1935, to the late William and Elno Anderson. Andy grew up in Meadow Valley, CA graduating from Quincy High School in 1952. From there, Andy joined the US Navy as a reservist for 8 years. Andy attended Chico State College where he met a very tenacious young woman named Janice during band class. The two were married on January 13, 1957 in Davis, CA. In 1961 Andy would graduate from the Police Academy and began his 29 year career as a patrolman with CHP in Indio, CA. Andy and Jan moved to Amador County in 1972 where Andy retired from the Jackson CHP in 1991. Andy was a quiet reserved man who enjoyed teasing lovingly in his own way. He was very active in his community and enjoyed various hobbies and traveling with family and friends. He was a charter member Upcountry 88 Lions, Upcountry SIRS 15, Elks Club Jackson, 10-10 travel club, Sirs RV club, Auto Mate RV club, loved to golf and bowl, enjoyed fishing, meticulous about his vehicles, took great pride in his auto restorations, collected cameras and dabbled in photography. However, his greatest love was his family. "Grandpa Grouch" as he was endearingly called by his grandchildren. He loved to play with his grandchildren, taking trips with the 5th wheel trailer during the summers. Andy was also a devoted husband to Jan, especially through her illnesses. Andy is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Janice of Pioneer; daughter, Karen Valvo (Frankie) of Ledger, MT; son, Anthony "Tony" Anderson (Pam) of Vernon, AZ; grandchildren, Tricia Anderson of Sonoma, Toni Lynn Anderson of San Francisco, Thomas Anderson of Rancho Santa Margarita, Jennifer Patchen of Seeley Lake, MT, Joseph Valvo of US Navy; cousins, Naomi Dean of Chico and Linda Shaw of Mt St. Helens. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rodger Anderson. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Service Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 2:30 PM at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson. In lieu of flowers contributions in his name may be made to The CAHP Widows and Orphans' Trust Fund, PO Box 161209, Sacramento, CA 95816-1209.
