Orville Gary Poulsen
April 14th, 1937 - June 23rd, 2013
Gary (age 76) went to his Lord on June 23rd, 2013, peacefully at his home in Woodway, WA. He was born in Sioux City, IA on April 14, 1937 to Orville and Olene Poulsen. After the family move to WA he spent boyhood years in Alderwood Manor and teen years in Innis Arden. Gary married the love of his life Judy Betts on February 13, 1960. After births of son Curtis and daughter Cristi the family moved to Northridge, Ca. where he pursued management level career opportunities. In 1978 a move to Woodway brought the family to Garys final home. He retired in 1992 at age 55 after being with only one employer his whole career. Garys biggest passions in life were family, fishing and hunting. He drifted the rivers, and enjoyed Canada lakes with family and friends. He fished Puget Sound off his beloved BouTime and took pride in being part of that fishing community. He provided bountiful quality seafood for his church and many families. Gary was a truly gifted big game hunter and spent fall in the Cascades and Olympics.Gary always had a project in progress and had mastely talented hand skills. He built many things, the last of these being raised garden boxes for Judy which completed the beautiful setting in their backyard. Gary and Judy were confirmed at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach just prior to their marriage and that church family has been an integral part of both of their lives. The church mens group, Carhartts for Christ so enriched Garys life and as his health declined he felt secure in the knowledge that he would be with the Lord. Gary was preceded in death by his Mother, Father and brothers Larry and Perry. He leaves his beloved wife Judy of 53 years, son Curtis (and wife Jennifer), daughter Cristi (and husband Bruce), grandchildren Paige, Olivia, Kell and Kera, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Gary lived his life with tenacity, loved his family immensely and took great pride in their growth, chosen paths and accomplishments. He cherished his grandchildren and allowed them to fully capture his heart. We will all miss him so very much. Announcement: 118% In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to First Lutheran Church.
