Oscar Powell Oscar Perry Powell of Springfield, Oregon passed away on June 28th, 2016 at the age of 66. He was born October 9th, 1949 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Mary and Jim Powell. His family moved to Bakersfield, California before moving to Mapleton, Oregon where he graduated from Mapleton High School. Dedicated to a life of service to others, Oscar volunteered to serve in the Air Force at 18 and served 4 years stationed in Vietnam and then the Philippines. He married Anna Marie Powell in 1974. After his service in the military, he worked in the mills until joining the Oregon State Police in 1980. He worked as a state trooper, then as station commander, before returning to the Eugene area and retiring as a senior trooper in 2000. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, boating, traveling and camping. He loved spending time with family, cheating at cards, and watching historical documentaries. Oscar is survived by his wife, Anna of Springfield, his son, James and wife Samantha of Portland, his daughter, Trisha and husband Dustin of Eugene, his son, Derrick and wife Kayla of Cottage Grove, his daughter, Virginia of Springfield, and his son, Edwin of Springfield; his brother, Eddie and wife Becky Leighton. He was a very proud grandfather of 6 beautiful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary, his father, Jim, his step-father, Raymond Lynch, and his younger brother, Darrell Powell. A service will be held on Tuesday, July 5th, at 1 pm at Springfield Memorial Gardens. The service will be preceded by a public viewing from 9 am to 12 pm.
