Otto Allen Hindman, Jr., 90, of Greeley, CO passed away March 9, 2015 at Hospice of Northern Colorado. He was born October 26, 1924 in New Eagle, PA to Otto and Isabel Schragel Hindman, Sr. His mother died from tuberculosis when Otto Jr. was 4; he and his sister, Betty, were raised by their grandmother. At age 18, Otto joined Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps. and spent the next year on the Ft. Peck Dam/Reservoir where he trained with the Army Corps of Surveyors. Otto returned to New Eagle, PA and enlisted in the US Army Air Corp, forerunner to the US Air Force, as a Corporal/Camera Technician. He operated aerial cameras at altitudes from 1,000 to 35,000 feet above sea level. On April 13, 1943 he stopped for breakfast at the Ranger Café in Bailey, CO and saw the love of his life Wilma Flohr a fill-in waitress. When she asked him what he was going to have he said "I’ll have you”. Her response was "you will have the regular and like it.” After the soldiers were fed, it was suggested the young waitress take "those two soldiers” (Otto and his buddy, Jack) on a tour up the mountain. And the rest was history. They were married on July 24, 1945 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greeley, CO. Otto was honorably discharged in 1946 and in 1947 started working for Howard Murphy and his father’s construction company in Greeley. They built homes in Glennmere Park and developed Hillside, Wilshire and Broadview subdivisions. He semi-retired in 1987 and worked his own construction/remodeling business for 13 years, retiring in 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Doris (Artie) Rohr of Greeley, Patty Jensen of Big Water, UT; six granddaughters; ten great grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters. Otto was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; his parents; and sister, Betty Jane Dibler-Hagner; and son-in-law, John Jensen. Viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Adamson Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Avenue, Greeley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to "Our Savior’s Lutheran Church”, "Honor Flight”, or "Community Foundation” for Community Grief Center in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
