Pamela J Lewis
January 21st, 1954 - April 16th, 2024
Phoenix – Evangelist Pamela J. Lewis passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 16, 2024, at home in Phoenix, Arizona. Pamela was born on the U.S. Naval base in San Diego, California on January 21, 1954, to Ella McDonald and Scott Lewis. She was blessed to have an infectious optimism, industrious nature, and fearlessly loving spirit. She was primarily reared in Kansas City, Missouri. Proud of having obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business, she was a life-long learner; always found with a book nearby. Pamela worked as an armed security guard and was also employed as a Metro Bus Driver for the Kansas City Transit Authority for many years.
She was a deeply spiritual woman, whose Christian faith help secure her purpose driven life. Her kindness, good food, and generosity often left an indelible mark on those she loved and those who loved her. Through the traumas she witnessed and withstood, born mocked and undesired by the dominate social culture of her early life, segregated and breathlessly restricted by official legal approvals from strangers unhinged in their hatred for folks of her class and skin-color, survivor of ugly and deeply traumatizing sexual abuse and heartbreaking domestic abuse, she always aimed to make the world a little better for her kin, friends, and the homeless.
She took immense pride in her children and taught them to govern their life through a highly principled faith, and to do the best they could with what they had. With searing grief and pain, mixed with bittersweet memories, her family remains honored having benefited from her good-humor, friendship, and unconditional love.
She loved to travel, fish, delivering and spreading the gospel of Christ, saving souls, and Arizona’s autumns and winters.
Pamela is survived by her Aunts Ora Jean Tucker, Wanda Lewis Brown, Loretta White, Uncles Chester and Arnail Lewis, her sister Jerri Thomas, her brothers Mark, Kevin, and Henri Lewis, her son Elden Steele III (Jeff Bauer), her daughter Arvella Hanson (Ryan Hanson), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her many friends at Saint Mary’s Manor in Phoenix.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Elden Steele, and her second husband Frederick Adams.
A private celebration of life service and blessing of her ashes will take place in May 2024.
