Pastor Charles Jerome Rigby
March 18th, 1943 - June 17th, 2015
Charles Jerome “Chuck” Rigby, 72, passed away June 17, 2015 at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington, his home the past 28 years. He was born March 18, 1943 to Lurinzer Bryan and Trudy Lee (Stewart) Rigby in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps (1961-1965) and was a member of the American Legion and Marine Corps League. He married his sweetheart Diane Jones on February 8, 1969, and they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this year. Chuck loved photography, NASCAR, and automobiles. His greatest joy was reading and studying God’s word and spending time with his family. Chuck had a thirst for learning. His educational experience includes Bacon Co. High School, Alma, GA (graduated 1961); USMC Aviation Electrician and Ordinance School (graduated 1962); Bachelor of Theology from Luther Rice Bible College, Jacksonville, FL (1974); Bachelor of Divinity from Luther Rice Bible College, Jacksonville, Florida (1974). Master of Theology from Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, FL (1976); Doctorate of Education from Freedom University, Orlando, FA (1980); Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement Academy (graduated 1985); and Doctorate of Theology from Fresno Baptist College and Seminary, Fresno, CA (1988). Chuck’s spiritual journey began when he was saved on April 18, 1971. He was ordained on December 12, 1972, surrendered to preach on May 5, 1971, and surrendered to missions on December 1, 1985. Professionally, Chuck’s religious service includes serving as associate pastor at Cedar Bay Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL (1971-1974); pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Seattle, WA (1974-1977); senior pastor at First Baptist Church, Land O Lakes, FL (1977-1980); pastor at Central Park Missionary Baptist Church, Brooksville, FL (1980-1985); and missionary pastor to Native Americans of the Northwest (1985-1993). He also served as a chaplain in law enforcement (1976-1993), and chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital and St. Clara Hospital (1995-1996). From 1993 to his death, he served as pastor of Landmark Baptist Church. Chuck is survived by his wife, Diane Rigby; son, Jason Rigby of Albuquerque, NM; daughter and son-in-law, Adam and Renee Hubbard of Centralia, WA; eight grandchildren, Hannah Rigby, Troy Rigby, AJ Hubbard, Thomas Rigby, Elizabeth Hubbard, James Rigby, Lilly Hubbard, and Zachary Hubbard; brothers, Bryan Rigby of Byron, GA, Jerry Rigby of Lagrange, GA, and Julian Rigby of Alma, GA; and sister, Joy Copeland of Lytle, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, James Stewart of Alma, GA. Please leave memories of Chuck or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
