Patricia Helms died peacefully at Hospice House on Tuesday, October 22 after an extended illness. She was a proud Floridian native and a pioneering resident of the Indian River Colony Club. A talented artist & hostess, she took full advantage of the social life at IRCC. Early in her adult life, she was with the American Red Cross stationed in occupied Japan. There, she met & married a young Army officer, John Helms. His career took them to Europe, England & many postings in the United States. After retirement they moved to Costa Rica & finally "home" to Florida. Pat is survived by loyal, loving & long-time friends, Clifford Shewan, Floyd & Berry Trogdon & family including Pat's god-daughter, The Reverend Denise Trogdon, Patrick & Lynda Bodelson, Mary Carpenter & Susan Kalawan. Her brother, Homer Humphries, preceded her in death. Her sister-in-law Dee Humphries remained an important family member & supporter until Pat's death. Arrangements are being handled by Beckmann-Williamson Funeral Home. A private memorial service is planned with The Reverend Trogdon officiating.
