June 9, 2023 - It is with profound sadness that we announce that our mother, Patricia Addie Shenandoah has left us and moved onto her next great adventure. She fought like hell for the past six months, she had high hopes of winning the battle but, in the end, Cancer won. It is the first fight she ever lost. Mom grew up in Nedrow, attended Onondaga Central Schools and married young. Although the marriage ended in divorce, they were blessed with five daughters. She spent most of her younger years raising her girls. As we grew older she took jobs at Fay’s Drugs, Wausau Insurance, Turning Stone and eventually retired from the City of Syracuse/Syracuse Hancock Airport where she worked in property/runway maintenance. Our mother was a proud, strong, independent, Akwasasne Mohawk woman, fiercely loyal to her friends and family. She enjoyed making her house a home with various projects, NUMEROUS coats of paint and LOTS of wallpaper. Her favorite pastimes were trips to the casino (where she was greeted by name, of course), practicing the fine art of scratching lottery tickets or sitting on her porch drinking coffee with her family and Peggy Durant. She also loved a good NASCAR race, an action packed lacrosse game and Patrick Mahomes (My Ma-Homey). Whether you knew her as Mom, Grandma, Patricia, Pat, Aunt Pat or by her nickname, “JugHead” you will undoubtedly have a great memory filled with laughter and probably a touch of mischief if you were a member of “MRR”. We have many memories and stories which we will cherish forever. We will be forever proud that we were able to keep our mother at home and care for her in the place she loved the most and that we were with her as she slipped into the hands of her God. We are especially thankful for Heather Congdon who provided the highest level of care and compassion for her beloved grandma. Predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Josephine Shenandoah, brother, Robert Shenandoah (late Dodie), sister & very best friend, Adele Burdick (late Doug) and her Godson, Timothy Kocher. Left to cherish Mom’s memory are: Siblings - Carolyn Kocher (late Bill), Lorraine Shenandoah, Albert Jake Shenandoah (Jean). Daughters - Christine Kane (Jerry), Patsy McElhannon (Jamie), Peggy Haumann, Kimberly Haumann (Joe) and Karrie Haumann (Wewoka). Grandchildren: Heather Congdon, Brandon Decaire, Colleen (Nick), Kelsey and Jack Kane, Kayla Geariety (Craig), Jakob & Zachary (Morgan) O’Donnell. Great-Grandchildren: Penelope Congdon, Phoenix Ferlenda and Tatum Geariety. Mom also leaves behind her cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, special friend, Vernon O’Donnell and Valerie Brandt & her family, all of whom had a special place in her heart. The family would like to thank everyone involved in her treatment including St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hematology/Oncology Associates, Strong Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Central New York. In addition, a GIANT thank you to everyone that took the time to mail cards, sent flowers and prayers, they really lifted her spirits!
