Patricia C. Smith
June 16th, 1919 - July 12th, 2007
" Patricia C. Smith, 88, formerly of Longview St, died July 12, 2007 at Birch Manor Skilled Nursing Center in Chicopee. Born June 16, 1919, a lifelong resident of Palmer and daughter of the late George E. Sr., and Agnes E. (Cantwell) Smith. During WWII she worked at Interstate Commerce Commission then she worked as the assistant clerk of court for the Palmer District Court for many years. In 1963, she graduated from Elms College where she received her Bachelors Degree in Education. Patricia also furthered her studies abroad at Oxford University. Patricia was a longtime English teacher at Palmer High School until she retired in 1981 as the English Department Chair. Patricia was an active communicant of St. Thomas Church and a member of the Rosary Sodality. She was a member of the Palmer Library and Wing Hospital Associations. Patricia is survived by a sister Janet Moore and her husband Robert of Peoria, AZ. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Friends and family may gather at Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home on Monday at 9:15 a.m. to follow in procession to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the Open Pantry, PO Box 5127, Springfield, MA 01101 or Palmer Public Library, 1455 N. Main St. Palmer, MA 01069. "
