In Loving Memory

Patricia “Pat” Joy Brown Thoen was born on November 24, 1933 to John Augustus Brown and Alsa Levita Ulm Brown in Ord, Nebraska, where she lived until she graduated from high school in 1951. At that time, she and her parents moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she attended North Central Bible College for a short time until her father had a second heart attack. She worked full time at G&K for one year, followed by Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Company for two years.

Pat married Arnold “Bud” Thoen on April 2, 1955, and they moved to Kalispell, Montana, for a year. During this year they celebrated the birth of Candace “Candy” Suzanne as the first baby born in 1956 In Kalispell. After their return to Minneapolis, their son Randy Kent was born in 1958. In 1964 they moved to Alexandria, Minnesota, where Bud started his new company, Douglas Machine. Pat worked for an attorney for three years and then joined Bud at Douglas Machine as secretary/bookkeeper until 1980.

In 1996 Bud and Pat semi-retired to Nokomis, Florida, and built Pat’s dream house, dividing their time between Minnesota and Florida. After Bud’s stroke in 2010 they moved to Florida permanently. Pat moved to Englewood in 2012 to be close to Bud in memory care.

Pat started piano lessons at the age of four and started playing piano in church at fourteen, which she continued for the rest of her life at whatever church she attended. She also directed choirs, sang many duets with Bud, and enjoyed the times their children joined them as a family to sing in various churches in the Alexandria area. Pat loved music, especially Southern Gospel music, and appreciated using the gift God gave her.

Surviving Pat are her daughter Candy (Paul) Kush of Englewood, Florida; daughter-in-law Melody Thoen of Alexandria, Minnesota; grandchildren Kayla (Lee) Johnson and Stephanie (Luke) Erickson of Alexandria, Minnesota; Shanna (Matt) Comerford of Wendell, Minnesota; Katrina Rollins of Delaware, Ohio; Kristi (Scott) Brown of Blacklick, Ohio; Kateri (Mark) Voit of Westerville, Ohio; Kelsea (John) Tilton of Somerset, Ohio; Kelly Kush of Galloway, Ohio; Kassandra Kush of Dallas, Texas; Kory Kush of Hilliard, Ohio; 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
