Patrick Joseph McCabe

Patrick Joseph McCabe went on his way on February 19, 2019 in Olympia, Washington, his home of 16 years. He was born December 10, 1949 to Earl L. and Florence V. (Izdepski) McCabe in Dayton, Ohio. Over the years, he also lived in Seattle, Washington; San Bernadino, California; Suitland, Maryland; Seattle, Washington; and Fresno, California. Patrick graduated from Tyee High School in Seattle, Green River Community College (1972), and Fresno State College (1996). He served in the U.S. Navy (1969-1971). He was a teacher in and out of the classroom his entire life. He married Elizabeth Land on June 21, 2004 on their sailboat, the Banjolin, at West Bay Marina, Olympia, Washington. Patrick was adept with his hands, musically inclined, and was an animal-lover. He was quick witted, athletic, passionate, acerbic, observant, kind, caring, and compassionate. He enjoyed playing banjo, woodworking, puzzles, sailing, politics, hiking, running, fishing, crabbing, golfing, reading, and teaching. He loved participating in community theater, directing, acting, and set building. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Beth; sons, Kelly McCabe and Devon McCabe of Olympia; four grandchildren; brothers, Paul McCabe of Oslo, Norway, Dennis McCabe and Sean McCabe of Seattle; and sisters, Diantha Perelli of San Antonio, Texas, Priscilla Melanson of Proctorville, Vermont, and Virginia McCabe of Olympia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Stephanie Nichols; and grandparents, Mary Dewey McCabe, E.L. McCabe, Martha Borlich Izdepski and Stanislaus A. Izdepski. Services will be held Sunday, March 3, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Reeves Middle School, 2200 Quince St. NE, Olympia, WA 98506. Memorial donations may be made to your area Hospice.
