Patrick McManus
June 28th, 1947 - May 13th, 2010
"Monson, Patrick J. McManus, 62, of Monson died of respiratory failure on Thursday, May 13th at Bay State Hospital with his sisters by his side. Born in Springfield, MA on June 28, 1947, he was the son of Edward F. and Mary (McKelligott) McManus. P.J. was a graduate of Palmer High School, where he was a very accomplished athlete. He attended Parsons College in Iowa on a baseball scholarship, and went on to play semi-professional baseball in the local Quaboag and Tri-County teams, distinguishing himself as a great left-handed hitter. During his professional career, Patrick enjoyed a long and successful career in branch management and branch operations beginning in the late 60’s with Connecticut Bank and Trust. He was a graduate of the New England School of Banking and Ohio State University’s Retail Banking Program. Pat ran a successful national CD campaign and established an employee bank for CBT which later became the model for employee banking services for the Bank of New England. He became an Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Vice President, and the Vice President of the bank, retiring in 1999. Admired for his professional capacities as a team builder and an outstanding “people-person”, Patrick had long-term employees and loyal customers throughout his 30 year career in the greater Hartford area. In addition to his parents, his sister, Jane, preceded him in death. Pat leaves many close friends and his two sisters, Mary, and her husband, John Brauer, and children, Meghan and Lucas; Peggy and her husband, Steve Wilkins, and children, Molly, Amy and Bridget; and Jane’s son, Daniel Finn. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many people who provided are and friendship to PJ. Friends and family may gather on Saturday, May 15 at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St., (Rte 20) from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to pay respects to the family. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Palmer Public Library, 1455 North Main Street, Palmer, MA 01069. "
