Paul Axelsen

Paul M. Axelsen’s journey on earth ended on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise with his loving wife of forty years, Lee at his side. Paul was born on February 23, 1943 to Milo C. and Peggy Lewis Axelsen of Murphy, Idaho. In 1945 the family moved to the CaIdwell area. Paul grew up on the family farm in the Maple Grove area southwest of Caldwell. After attending grade school at Maple Grove, Paul graduated from CaIdwell High School in 1961. Subsequent to a short stint at the University of Idaho, Paul landed a job grooming horses for his uncle Gene Lewis, who trained horses for the Day family in the Pebble Beach, California area. Later, Paul became involved in the farming industry in both North Dakota and Idaho. He would work later for several years at the Boeing Company in the Seattle area where his dearly loved son Brian was born. In the early seventies, Paul moved back to Idaho and entered the concrete construction business. After several years with Wolfe Construction in Boise, Paul was able to launch his own company. That venture would later become Axelsen Concrete Construction, LLC, and today still does small to mid-sized and large construction projects throughout Idaho and several surrounding states. Paul’s obsession for perfection earned him a reputation as one of the most respected and sought after concrete construction companies in the northwest. Paul felt a great affection for and held a tremendous loyalty to those who worked for him. He always managed to keep his employees working through good times and bad, often to his personal sacrifice. Paul actively managed his business up to the day of his death. Paul was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and a wonderful friend. He was always there for everyone. He loved to hunt, to fish and spend time improving his getaway cabin in Owyhee County. His commitment to perfection also was evident in his pursuit of other activities which included bowling, competitive archery, golf and woodworking. In his later years he had become an artist in creating a variety of beautiful wood pieces. Paul had a passion for several genres of music and had been seriously pursuing the classical guitar for the past seven years. He often practiced with his special little buddy Rosie by his side. Paul is survived by his wife, Lee, son Brian of Meridian, daughter Julia Moye (Tim) of Nampa, grandchildren Logan Moye, Nicole Giraud (Ben), of Nampa and Janessa Axelsen of Star, one brother Nels of Nampa, sisters Diana of Moonpark, California, Elaine Mathiasen (John) of Middleton, nephews, Eric, Mark, and Evan Mathiasen, and Peter and Lars Axelsen. A viewing will take place on Tuesday, August 7th from 5-8 p.m. at the Sandstone Event Center at 404 12th Avenue South in Nampa with funeral services to follow on Wednesday, August 8th at 10 a.m. at the Sandstone Event Center. Interment will follow at the Melba Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian. Lee is very thankful to all her family and many friends who have shown love and support at this time. She is especially thankful to the special care Paul received from Dr. Paul Montalbano, Dr. J.W. Smith, and Drs. Byran and Nicole Hodges, as well as all of the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital.
