Paul Louis Caruso
March 1st, 1956 - May 23rd, 2024
Paul Louis Caruso, beloved husband of the late Erna Caruso, father of Nicole Di Noto (Jon), Paul Caruso Jr. (Cindy), and Danielle Coe (Chad), and cherished grandfather of Jonathan, Allessandra, Cayden, and Orylan, passed away on Thursday evening, May 23, 2024, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. All services will be private.
Paul was born on March 1, 1956 in New York to the late Louis and Emily Caruso. While attending Berner High School in Massapequa, New York, he pursued his passion for the military and aviation by enrolling in BOCES, where he specialized in aircraft maintenance. After completing his education, Paul joined the United States Air Force in 1974, where he served with integrity and dedication. He later served as a corrections officer at Rikers Island in New York City, demonstrating his commitment to public service. In 1992, Paul joined the 106th Rescue Wing as a sergeant, serving as an Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Mechanic until his retirement.
Throughout his military career, he deployed multiple times with the 106th to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, and served with honor during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, and Operation Northern Watch. Paul was deeply committed to his faith and community. Alongside his wife, he was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered tirelessly with the youth group and other church functions at Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa Park. He will be remembered by many. After relocating to North Carolina, he continued to serve at John Paul Neumann Parish, where his contributions will be remembered.
Paul is also survived by his brothers Louis, Anthony, and Jerry, his sister Rose, nieces, nephews, friends, and many loved ones. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Paul's life. Details will be provided to family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause that was close to his heart.
Rest in peace, Paul. May you find eternal peace now with your wife, Erna and those who have passed before you.
Until we meet again.
