Paul Delano Hinds, 87, of Pamplico, SC, passed away on May 25, 2024. Born to Nathan and Viola Hinds, Paul was preceded in death by his beloved son, Paul Delano Hinds Jr., his sisters, Connie Wyndom, Ardith Garrison, June Stanton, and his brother, Richard Hinds. He is survived by his children, Allison Redick (Jim), Mimi Tanguay (Paula), Eileen Walsh, John Walsh (Belinda), Pamela Waters (Johnny), and Brian Tanguay, as well as daughters-in-law Michelle Hinds and Martie Haselden. Paul is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He graduated from McClenaghan High School, attended Mars Hill College and graduated from Newberry College. He spent his early professional life as a teacher and was the Assistant Principal of Delmae Elementary school. He then opened and ran several businesses in Columbia and Pamplico, most notably the Deli on Main Street which was a popular gathering place for teenagers and young adults in town. He enjoyed coaching, having coached Small Fry and Dixie Youth baseball, Pop Warner football, and church league softball as well as the "Pamplico Pharmacy" traveling softball team. He loved to fish at Santee and gave his favorite spots nicknames of those he'd fished with there or animals he'd seen there. "Mr. Paul" was well known for his skill in making a mean sub sandwich, his love of fishing and his enjoyment of a good card game, not to mention selling blueberries to folks around town from Martie Haselden's blueberry patch. Paul will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Children want to especially thank Terri (Paul's Niece) and Steve Bazen for their generosity and kindness to Mr. Paul in his later years as he "held down the fort" at Bazen's Crossroads. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in his name. Services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1883 South Pamplico Highway, Pamplico, SC 29583 followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM at Sweet T, 625 South Walnut Street, Pamplico, SC 29583. The South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family. Please share memories and messages on the online guest book by clicking on the “Tribute Wall” tab above.
