Paul Matthew Johnson

Paul Matthew Johnson, 70, the husband of Marcella (Marci) Hunt Johnson, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024. Paul was born in October 1953, to the late A.M. Johnson and Lula Belle Wilcox Johnson in South Charleston, West Virginia. Paul and Marci were married in Logan, WV in 1984 and a few months later chose to make Kentucky their home. They immediately fell in love with Versailles  and moved there in 1985. Paul took a job working for Woodford County Parks and Recreation at Big Spring Pool. He enjoyed his time there before going back to school earning an associate's degree in computer information systems from the University of Kentucky. Paul then pursued his new found career in information technology with the State of Kentucky until retirement, as a Network Analyst for the Department of Military Affairs and then the Kentucky Department of Treasury.

Paul had a passion for all things music, and while he could play almost any instrument by ear, his true love was the guitar. From playing James Taylor covers around his home to joining the praise band at church, he jumped at any opportunity to make music. Paul also loved to watch movies and documentaries, which armed him with a well of facts and movie quotes that, along with his witty humor, made him a source of laughter in any conversation.

In most recent years, Paul’s greatest joy has come from being the “cabana boy” for his backyard pool resort, where he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife of 40 years, Marci, Paul is survived by his daughter, Becca Hope Johnson Lowe, her husband, Curtis, and their two children, Emma Saylor and Ace Grant, all of Versailles; 2 sisters, including Yvonda Hendrick of Beverly Hills, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members as well as a community of loving friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd, Frankfort. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 4:00 pm until the time of service on Thursday, at Clark Legacy Center.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Memorial Contributions be made to The Friends of Big Spring Park, to help continue building the community for future generations.
