Paul Mackey
May 7th, 1960 - October 1st, 2022
Paul Edwin Mackey, 62, husband of Joy Mackey and beloved father to Claire, passed away suddenly on Saturday October 1, 2022. Paul was born on May 7, 1960 in Louisville, KY to the late Marjorie Boytz and Edwin Mackey. Paul was self-employed and worked in manufacturing sales with TorcUP. Paul was a 1978 graduate of Ballard High School in Louisville, KY where he was a member of the wrestling team. There he made lasting, life-long friendships. At the University of Kentucky, Paul was a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity where he widened his circle of best friends. He truly enjoyed his college experience and took his sweet time earning his finance degree, all while working at the Chevy Store. Paul was a natural athlete; a swimmer, runner, and a member of the University of Kentucky Water Polo team. He loved all sports. Golfing and fishing with his friends, watching High School wrestling matches, and any and all things UK. He enjoyed playing basketball with the neighborhood church league, “The Broadmoor Ballers,” even the time he came back from a game injured; namely with a broken pinkie finger and a deep thigh bruise. Paul was a good neighbor and loved his neighborhood, dropping everything to lend a hand or a tool. He had a lot of tools. He enjoyed teaching the neighborhood kids to ride bikes and was a patient officiator for all the neighborhood kickball and basketball games. In particular, his favorite game, one he liked to call “Argue” ball. Paul was a good brother to Wayne and Carol, a solid supporter in everything they did, except when it came to sharing the 1965 Rambler American. Paul was a kind, calm, patient man, and a friend to all. Whatever he set his mind to, he could do, whether it be making things or breaking things, he loved it all. Paul had a unique, dry wit that cracked everyone up. His quips will live on forever. Above all, he was a wonderful husband and father, always supportive and never missing a track or cross country meet. His family, his friends and neighbors were the bright lights of his life. He will be terribly, terribly missed. We are heartbroken. Besides his wife Joy and daughter Claire Mackey, those left to cherish his memory include his brother Wayne Mackey (Cathy Perkins-Mackey) and niece Olivia Perkins-Mackey; sister Carol Mackey Andrulevich (John) and nephew Seth Mackey. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Tee - Greater Lexington (firstteelex.org).
