Paul Henry Mastromarino Jr.

In honor of Paul Henry Mastromarino Jr. who passed away quietly on November 13, 2020. Paul will be sadly missed by his two sons Michael and Nicolas Mastromarino of Florida, his partner Annie Whittemore of Massachuettes, his parents Mr. Paul H. Mastromarino of Suffern, NY and his mother and step-father Mrs.Sherry and Mr. Duke Hutchinson of Florida. Paul’s sisters, Sherry, Susan and Sandy in the NY/NJ area, his brother-in-law Steve, half brothers Julian and Eric, sister Lisa, countless cousins across the country, 2 nieces and 3 nephews. His love of his family, especially for his 2 sons Michael and Nicolas, brought him great joy. Paul was a devoted father and very proud of his sons’ who returned that love to him with honor. As a boy, Paul loved tinkering with engines, on minibikes or go carts and it was fun to watch him do the same with his boys when they were little. As they grew older, Paul would boast of their athleticism and loved to go to baseball games or water ski parks to watch their successes. He was extremely proud of the men they have become. He never wanted the miles to separate his boys from his family in NY because he always wanted there to be a bond with all their family, which was so important to Paul. In the words of his partner Annie, “Paul was a quiet man but when he found a topic or a person he enjoyed spending time with, you couldn’t get him to stop talking”. He would share stories with joy in his heart, especially those in memory of the times he spent with his cherished Grandfather (‘Pop’) the late Jerry Mastromarino of Haverstraw. Paul was a devoted son and a big Frank Sinatra fan, a love he shared with his father. They knew every word to every song and would sing together with joy. He was loyal, kind and always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He would spend weeks on his mother’s winery, sharing her passion for wine making, to help put in a new vineyard, or repurpose something on the farm with his stepfather. He had a loving and generous heart and anyone who knew Paul, knew he would do anything for you. This poem speaks of Paul and we hope it transcends your sadness and instead, brings you joy for his lasting memory. “I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun. O happy memories that I leave when life is done.” Paul’s father, an author, singer and poet, wrote the poem below for all those who grieve for the loss of a loved one, as we do today, that we leave with you. TOGETHER IN HEAVEN My dearest friends and family there are things I’d like to say; first of all I’ll let you know I arrived here safe today. I am sending word from heaven where I’ll dwell with God above; there are no tears and sorrow, there is only peace and love. I had to leave you as my time on earth was through; loved ones waited for me just as I will wait for you. I missed them and I am happy to be with them again; I want you all to know I’m here with family and friends. God gave me many tasks he wishes me to do; high up on the list is watching over all of you. Don’t think I do not hear you because I am out of sight; remember I am with you every morning, noon and night. When your load gets heavy don’t cry too many tears; then I can whisper to you what you will need to hear. I always will be near you to guide you through each day; remember when you need me I am just a thought away. Our love will build a highway and our memories a lane; I’ll walk right down from heaven and be with you again. Remember when you miss me and I am on your mind; although you will not see me I’ll be just a step behind. When your life on earth is over and your soul is finally free; believe me when I tell you, you’ll be coming home with me.
