Paul "Dr. Clot" Edward Nolan
November 17th, 1954 - September 4th, 2014
Paul Edward Nolan, Jr. was born on November 17, 1954 in Norwood, MA to Paul and Margaret Nolan. Paul died on September 4, 2014. Paul attended St. Catharine's Elementary School and Norwood High School where he loved spending the fall afternoons competing on the football field. He graduated from Northeastern University College of Pharmacy with a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy. He then attended the University of Kentucky where he earned a Doctorate of Pharmacy and completed a pharmacy residency. Paul came to the University of Arizona as a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy in 1980, achieved the status of a tenured full professor and remained there until his retirement in 2014. In addition, Dr. Nolan was a cardiovascular clinical pharmacist at the University of Arizona Medical Center and was a Senior Clinical Scientist with the Sarver Heart Center. He worked closely with Dr. Jack Copeland, his mentor, and the Artificial Heart Program. Dr. Nolan was a key member of the team and had the responsibility of managing the anticoagulation for patients on these devices. He achieved international recognition for his work with these patients which earned him the nickname "Dr. Clot". Besides his devotion to his patients at the University of Arizona Medical Center, Paul adored his daughters, Cooper and Cameron. He loved rooting on the sidelines at their soccer games, coming up with numerous nicknames, and enduring endless shopping trips to the mall. He spent hours bragging to whoever would listen about his girls. Paul is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jeff. Paul is survived by his daughters, Cooper and Cameron; siblings, Steve (Kathy) and Anne Marie Finneran (Chris); godmother, Irene Gillaspy; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins and his Australian Shepherds, Mia and Emma. In lieu of flowers, Paul requested that donations be made to either the Scottsdale Christian Academy football team or the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Clinic. A Memorial Mass and reception will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center, Tucson, AZ. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (520-742-7901).
