Paul Vestal Oates II

Paul Vestal Oates, II, went peacefully to his heavenly Father on January 29th, 2020, at White Oak Manor of Charlotte. He was born on August 10, 1945, in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Paul Vestal Oates and Jeannie Gray Oates. Paul completed Central High School and joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War . He received numerous medals and an honorable discharge. He later operated his own business, Electrotest, Incorporated until retirement. Paul was preceded in death by his lifelong companion Ann Schettig West. Survivors Suzanne, Destry, Savannah, Kennedy and Destry, II Ballard, Mickey Fowler, and his Unity Family. Paul is known as a hero in many ways, a veteran, a friend to all, and a spiritual giant in the recovery community in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has so lovingly and generously shared his experience, strength and hope to hundreds of people struggling with the disease of alcoholism for over 44 years. His legacy of love, acceptance and sobriety will continue to be celebrated by many.
