Paul Leslie Sampson
September 29th, 1937 - November 22nd, 2020
Paul Leslie Sampson unexpectedly passed away after suffering a fall in his home on 22 November 2020. He was born on 29, September 1937 in Rocky Ford Colorado to Paul R. Sampson and Clara M. (Billingsley) Sampson. He was the oldest of 9 children. He resided in Rocky Ford until his family moved to American Falls Idaho. He eventually moved and lived in several places, Houston Texas, La Junta Colorado, where he met his future wife while stopping in the local drive up. He would return many times ordering just a Dr. Pepper, hoping she would be his car hop. A wink, a date, and 3 months later they were married on 1 September 1969. Together they eventually moved on to Weiser Idaho, Pocatello Idaho, Keenesburg Colorado, Hudson Colorado, Greeley Colorado, Alamogordo New Mexico, Shreveport Louisiana, Jacksonville Arkansas and finally made it back home to “his mountains” settling down in Aurora Colorado. He was a Jack of all trades and took pride in everything he did. He could often be found spending countless hours on a new drawing, woodworking, reading, gardening, tinkering, word searching, watching his corny westerns, munching on his favorite snacks, or diligently tending to his sweet tooth. In his younger years he was an avid cyclist, fisherman, hunter and loved camping. He was self-taught for many of his talents. He enjoyed playing his harmonica, and if you were lucky enough you got to hear him play some of his beautiful tunes in person. He was once a proud member of the Masonic family. He served in the U.S. Air Force, leading the way for both of his kids to each serve 20 years in the USAF. If you knew him, you also knew he was a big jokester, a prankster. He enjoyed making the people around him laugh and smile, so you knew to always watch out because he usually had something sneaky up his sleeve. Paul was a born again Christian and attended Stanfill Baptist Church in AR and was currently a member of New Heights Baptist Church in Aurora, CO He is preceded in death by his Father Paul R. Samson, Mother Clara M. Sampson, Sisters Viola K. Eddy, Karen Fernau, Judith Hall, Shirley Haigh, Flora Collier, and brother Johnny. And survived by his wife of 51 glorious years Margaret E. (Springer) Sampson, Son Paul W. Sampson (Dorothy), daughter Wendy M. Cunningham (Douglas), two brothers Dale Sampson and Dennis Sampson and 8 grandchildren, Rikki D. Quist (Andrew), Michael S. Cunningham, Devi M. Shanks, Hayley A. Cunningham, Reili M. Shanks, Alexis N. Sampson, Dean M. Cunningham, Gavin R. Cunningham and many nieces and nephews. He was the best husband, father, and grandfather anyone could ever ask for. His family was his pride and joy and Although we all will miss him dearly his legacy will live on through us all for many years to come….Until we meet again!
