Paula M Sutton

Paula Margaret Sutton, 92, of Greeley, CO went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2017, at Grace Pointe Senior Living. She was born on October 11, 1924 in Tulsa, OK to Paul and Leila (Smith) McConnell. She was raised by her father and her stepmother, Violet Bird, after her mother passed away when Paula was 4 years old. Paula was educated in Tulsa and Dallas, TX. Paula met the love of her life, Gerald Warren Sutton, in Dallas and they were married on September 17, 1946, in Lusk, WY. They had their first child, Gerry Lynn in 1947, but she passed away in 1958 at the age of 11. They had 2 more children, Gary Wayne in 1952 and Geron Wesley in 1961. Paula’s husband, Gerald passed away on March 26, 2002. Gerry and Paula lived in many places, but settled in Greeley in 1979. There they owned Wholesale Plywood, where Paula worked alongside Gerry for many years. Their compassionate spirits took them on numerous mission trips to Guatemala. They enjoyed retirement tremendously, traveling together and spending extended time in Tucson, Arizona. Paula exemplified the role of a faithful, devoted, loving wife. These traits were even more evident in the tender loving care she gave to her disabled son, Gary. Her caring spirit was also revealed in her heartfelt love for all her dear friends and their families, evidenced by her generosity. Paula was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Greeley where she was active in "Ladies Lift" and many other organizations and activities. She had a passion and a talent for painting and was an avid reader, a lover of all animals and was delighted with beautiful flowers. She spent many a day at antique stores searching for treasures, especially candlewick dishes. She had a giving spirit, which was demonstrated during her time at Grace Pointe as she enjoyed buying gifts for both her friends and the staff. Paula is survived by her sons, Gary and Geron (Patricia), her grandson, Garin Sutton (Amber), and a great grandson, Gabe. She also is survived by a brother-in-law, Kenneth Sutton (Virginia), and a sister-in-law, Grace Etheridge (Lee) and a niece and two nephews. Paula was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter and two half brothers, Edward Rankin McConnell and Paul Rankin McConnell, Jr. A celebration of Paula's life and hope will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in the Community Room at Grace Pointe Senior Living , 1919 68th Avenue Greeley. A private inurnment will be at Linn Grove Cemetery.
