Pauline Rose Shreve Harter passed away the evening of October 2, 2009 while at the Hospice House in Hughson (Stanislaus County) California. She was a resident of Modesto. Pauline moved to Modesto from Magalia, CA due to her late husband's, Dr. Dale McColm Harter, health. Pauline had three children, Dr. Paula Dale (and Kemal) Harter-Olmez of Seattle and Turkey, Dr. Raymond D. (and Paula) Harter of Modesto, and the late Dennis lee Harter. Pauline was born in Pender, NB to Neal and Ester (Christiansen) Shreve on December 21, 1922. She was born in the same house her father was born in 1900. She was the oldest of five children, her siblings: Neal H., Betty, Mark, and Sterling. She is survived by her sister Betty Ann (and Gordon) Williams of Portland, OR and her brother Sterling P. (and Ruth) Shreve of Ames, IA. Pauline graduated from East High School in Sioux City. Pauline worked outside the home until her children were out of undergraduate school. She worked as a personnel supervisor with the Broadway Department Store in Torrance, CA. Prior to that she had a variety of occupations including: working at the shipyards in San Francisco during World War II, Barton Instrument Corp., and retail shops. Pauline was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Modesto. She was an active member of the senior choir and Wednesday night study group. She was always active in the churches and past president of the Women's Club. Pauline was a long time member and past chapter president of the beneficial women's society "P.E.O.". She enjoyed oil painting and won several awards, selling some paintings. She enjoyed writing about family history and stories concerning her life and the experiences of her extended family. Pauline's grandchildren are Jeffrey Horn of Florida, Nicole A. Bauer of Folsom, CA. Quinn M. Harter of Modesto, Heather Selby of Chandler, AZ, Jessica Miller of Lubbock, TX; great-grandchildren, Morgan Harter, Madison Selby, Abbey J. Miller; nieces and nephews, Linda (and Sandy) Equchi, Laura (and Chris) Dean, and their children, Aubrey Dean, Justin Miller, Alyssa (and Chris) Draper, Kelley (and Mike) Brodie, Ryand and Emily Brodie, Karen (and Denny) Thiel, Paul Shreve, and Andrew Eguchi. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park.
