Tribute Pearl L. Fick, 102, formerly of Longmont, Colorado, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora, Nebraska. A private family burial will be held in Longmont, Colorado, on Wednesday, April 15. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com. Pearl Louise Fick was born on December 10, 1017, in Villisca, Iowa, to Russell and Lola (Frank) Higgins. She was raised in Villisca until 1924 when the family moved to Denison, Iowa. Pearl was baptized at First Methodist Church in Denison in March 1932, and graduated from Denison High School in 1935. In October, 1936, Pearl married Edwin C. Fick at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, and in 1937 she was Confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel. In 1942, the couple moved with their two oldest children to Bellevue, Nebraska, where Ed worked at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Company during World War II. In 1947, the family moved to Le Mars, Iowa, where Ed owned an army surplus store for several years, then worked for NIPCO and later for Motorola. Their daughter Jane was born there, and later Pearl held a variety of jobs with her favorite being at a women’s boutique. In 1976 Edwin and Pearl retired to Colorado where their three children and their families lived. Her favorite pastimes were playing bridge, doing crosswords, hosting family gatherings, and camping in Colorado. Pearl was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado, where she was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Lutheran Women’s Guild. She was involved with the Priscilla and Esther circles at Messiah, and was always active in Bible studies at her church and apartment complex. For so many years, she loved baking cookies for Vacation Bible School at Messiah. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Judy (Richard) Tucker of Lakewood, CO; her daughter Jane Vander Tuig of Hampton, NE; and her daughter-in-law Nancy Fick of Longmont, CO. Also surviving her are her granddaughter Connie (Dave) Yoshida and their children Brad (Victoria Gibson) and Shannon (Ben Hetzel) and great-great grandson Falcon Hetzel; granddaughter Julie (Carlos) Rojas and children Tim and Missy Hoerter; grandson Jeff Tucker (fiance Radawn Moore) and his daughter Holly Tucker (fiance Nick Rybarczyk); grandson Clint (Candee) Fick and their children Anna, Luke, and Joel; grandson Adam Vander Tuig (great-grandson George Vander Tuig) and fiance Rachel Foran; granddaughter Marci Vander Tuig and husband Weston Poor; and many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and friends. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed, son Fred, son-in-law Stephen Vander Tuig; brother George and sister Opal; and all her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
