All-States Cremation - Wheat Ridge
Peggy Schmidt
August 9th, 0937 - November 8th, 2015
It is with great sadness that we convey the news that Peggy Anne Schmidt passed away November 8, 2015 at her home in Golden, Colorado. She was born in Garden City, Kansas on August 9, 1937 the daughter of Lawrence and Beatrice Wasson. She is survived by her husband Hal, son Andrew and his wife Zlatka, daughters Anne and her husband Tovio, Alison and her husband Galin along with three grandchildren, Mesepa, Oliver and Tailua. Her brother Kenneth Wasson of Rolla, Kansas survives her. Her brother Larry Wasson of Belpre, Kansas and her parents Lawrence and Beatrice Wasson preceded her in death. Peggy grew to adulthood in Garden City. She attended Garden City Junior College, the University of Kansas and received a B.A. in Cross Cultural Psychology from the University of Colorado. She also attained a B.A. in Therapeutic Touch and was a Reiki Master. She was an accomplished musician and played the trombone, piano, and pipe organ. She met Harold A. Schmidt, Jr. at the University of Kansas and they were united in marriage on June 25, 1960. Peggy worked as a secretary for various government agencies including the Atomic Energy Commission and the Bureau of Reclamation. She operated her own medical transcription business called Lagniappe Transcription for over 20 years. She was also an amazing wife, mother and homemaker. In the early years of her marriage, Peggy lived in various states among them Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Louisiana. She especially enjoyed a year spent in New Orleans, and enjoyed exploring the many antique shops in this fascinating city where she acquired a life-long taste for French Market Coffee & Chicory, a local favorite. The majority of her married life was spent in Golden, Colorado where she and Hal raised their children. She was active in her children’s school lives and served on the PTA many times. Peggy loved cross word puzzles, bridge, and catching up with family and friends whenever she had the chance. She read voraciously and the gift of a “Kindle” while she was fighting progressive pulmonary hypertension was a much loved gift which helped her keep up with her favorite authors, even when she was not able to get to the library or bookstore. She loved to travel and visited many states including Hawaii, South Dakota, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Nevada, California, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, Louisiana, Utah and New Mexico to name a few. She also traveled to Germany, Switzerland, Western Samoa, Mexico, The Bahamas and New Zealand. She always wanted to go to China and Tibet and never made it but she loved to read about foreign countries and “visited” them by talking to others who had been. She and Hal often entertained foreign visitors through a program in Denver that paired them with foreigners who would stay for dinner and conversation. She never considered herself outgoing but talked to anyone about anything. She enjoyed meeting new people and finding out what interested them. She had a wide variety of friends and often had them all over for family parties that spanned an age range from teenagers to people older than she. A consummate hostess, her home was always open to friends and family. She jokingly referred to it as “The Schmidt Chalet”. Peggy loved her pets as well, especially Toby, her purebred Rat Terrier. He was given to her by a friend even while she was still saying she didn’t really want another dog. Toby was her constant and faithful friend for many years and after his passing she never had another dog. Her caring spirit is already missed but her spirit of curiosity, kindness and love will carry on in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held at Mile Hi Church of Religious Science on Friday, November 20th at 2 p.m., located at 9077 Alameda Ave., Lakewood, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Table Mountain Vet Clinic – Chip Fund or The American Heart Association.
