Penelope Beth Amos

LEXINGTON, KY: Penny (Penelope) Beth (Whitton) Amos, age 79, a longtime Lexington, Kentucky resident, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021, in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Ashland, KY on December 30, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Garnett Hubbard Bracy, and Leo Whitton. Penny was raised and educated in Pikeville and was a graduate of Pikeville High School, Class of 1959, where she was a proud member of the Majorette team. She also attended the Fugazzi Business College. She was later employed by the KY Power Company in Pikeville. Ms. Amos moved to Lexington in 1976 with her two children where she created a loving home for her family. She was employed for several years as an Administrator at The Kentucky Harness Racing Commission to the time of her retirement. Ms. Amos was also a Registered Notary Public for the State of Kentucky. A lady of grace and faith, Penny was devoted to the Southland Christian Church in Lexington. She was an enthusiastic member of The Lexington Woman’s Club Follies, The Thorobreds Ladies Group, the Pikeville High School Alumni Association, the HaHa Girls group, and the Parrothead Club. Penny served as a bright and steady beacon of light to her devoted family and friends. In addition to her parents, Garnett Hubbard Bracy, and Leo Whitton, Penny Beth was preceded in death by her beloved stepfather, Clyde Bracy and her brother, Ric Whitton. Penny is survived by a son, Shawn Amos of Pikeville, Kentucky; a daughter, Shannon Mortimer and her husband Jeff of Lexington, Kentucky; a sister, Candy McGuire and her husband Jack of Florida; and a brother, Bob Bracy and his wife Donna of Tennessee. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Luke Amos, Alexander Mortimer and his wife Hannah, and Mason Mortimer; nieces, Kim Emory, Angie Pittman, Marcie Bouw; and a nephew, Michael Bracy. A celebration of Christian burial will be held at Clark Legacy Center, 601 E Brannon Rd, Nicholasville, Kentucky, on Friday, January 15, 2021 with visitation hours from 11:00AM to 1:00PM with the service of Celebration commencing at 1:00PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery at 2:30 PM. Serving as casketbearers will be Alex Mortimer, Mason Mortimer, Jeff Mortimer, Shawn Amos, Nick Blevins and John Michael Johnson.
