Peter Antonino and Sandra Antonino
October 13th, 1929 - July 29th, 2015
Peter "Pete" Ralph Antonino passed away peacefully, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Sandra, and embraced in the love of his family and care of the Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, on July 29, 2015. Sandra Helen (nee Scheidt) Antonino passed away August 3, 2015, just 5 days later, in the arms of her three children and care of the Dominican Hospital, due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Pete was born on October 13, 1929 in Fresno, CA to Nellie and Joseph Antonino of Italian origin. He attended San Joaquin Memorial High School, graduating in 1948. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a sailor on a ship stationed in Juneau, Alaska. Sandra was born on June 11, 1936 in Fresno, CA to Carl and Helen Scheidt. Her mother passed away when Sandra was an infant, and she was raised by her father and stepmother, Jane. She attended Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1954. She started a career in Banking in Fresno and there she met the love of her life, Pete Antonino, and they married on June 1, 1957. Pete and Sandra had three children. Pete accepted an opportunity to work at Sylvania in Santa Cruz, the beautiful town where both Pete and Sandra's families had spent many summers on the beach and boardwalk, and the young family moved to Aptos in April of 1968. Pete attended evening courses at Cabrillo College in Aptos and received an AA degree in Electronics. He later made a career in Quality Assurance with Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Santa Cruz. Sandra resumed her career in banking and worked at several Bank of America branches in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, starting as an NCR machine operator and retiring as a loan officer. After retirement, Sandra attended courses at Cabrillo College in Aptos where she received Certified Nursing Assistant certification. Pete was a loving husband and father, a devout Catholic. He was active in forming a Boy Scout troop in Aptos and was the first scout master. He was known and loved for his humor, smiles and laughter. He was a natural-born musician, played the piano, had a magnificent, silky baritone voice and regularly entertained the family with popular tunes from the 40' and 50's. Sandra was a devout Lutheran (later converted to Catholicism) and a loving wife and mother. She was a 4-H leader and a Boy Scout district commissioner. She loved to sew, crochet, knit and embroider and was a Ninja at crossword puzzles. She studied piano as a child and was a substitute church organist and choir member. She was very supportive of the music endeavors of her children, which included violin and bass lessons. The music gene was generously passed down from both of them to their children and grandchildren. Pete and Sandra enjoyed dancing and they were in a bowling league. Pete and Sandra are survived by children Lisa, Lawrence (Larry) and Robert, grandchildren Alysha, Stefan, Arik (Schoessow), Lauren and Matthew and their beloved dog, Leo. Pete is also survived by Brothers Victor and Vincent and Sister Mary (Walbeck). A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola, CA on Wednesday September 16, 2015 at 1:00 pm. We invite you to give a donation to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at http://pulmonaryfibrosis.donorpages.com/Tribute/SandraAntonino/.
