Peter DiCaprio
June 29th, 1913 - October 28th, 2006
Peter DiCaprio, 93, of Knollwood Avenue, passed away Saturday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility with his loving family at his side. Born June 29, 1913 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Alfred and Pauline Coluni DiCaprio. He attended Yankee Hill School. Peter was employed as the dedicated caretaker for St. Michael?s Cemetery for 20 years retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Columbians Social Club and a communicant of St. Michael?s the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Peter enjoyed gardening, hunting and spending time with his family. On October 4, 1936 he married the former Elvera Palma DeSorbo and most recently they celebrated 70 years of their marriage. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Alfred DiCaprio and his wife Stephanie of Raleigh, North Carolina, Richard DiCaprio and his wife Kathy of Ballston Lake, New York and Ronald DiCaprio and his wife Audie of Fort Johnson; three brothers, Alfred DiCaprio, John DiCaprio and Joseph DiCaprio all of Amsterdam; four sisters, Nancy Gentile, Nadle Gentile and Mary Donato all of Hollywood, Florida and Jennie Hall of Johnstown, New York; eight grandchildren, Mark DiCaprio and his wife Sarah of Kingston, New York, Stephanie DiCaprio Brown and her husband Harry of Alexandria, Virginia, Alfred DiCaprio, Jr. of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Richard DiCaprio, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, Corey DiCaprio and his wife Kerri of Ballston Lake and Jason DiCaprio and his wife Danielle of Raleigh, North Carolina, Peter DiCaprio and his wife Kelly of Holly Springs, North Carolina and Kristen Priamo and her husband Joe of Amsterdam, seven great grandchildren, Madison and Lily DiCaprio, Gabrielle DiCaprio, Kaila DiCaprio, Weston Sartin, Antonio Priamo and Ashtyn DiCaprio; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Peter was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Dallesandro and Julia Martini, and a brother, Nicholas DiCaprio. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 am at St. Michael?s the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Michael?s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Peter?s memory to the Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF Activities Fund, 4988 Route 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the St. Michael?s Cemetery Fund, PO Box 699, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
