August 11, 1917 – May 1, 2011 Pete Mahon died peacefully at home on May 1, 2011. He was born in Williamston, SC and graduated from Clemson in 1939 with a degree in electrical engineering and a commission in the US Army Reserve as a Second Lieutenant. After college, he worked for Seaboard Air-Line Railroad. He served with the 37th Infantry Division in the Pacific in WWII and later served with the 45th Infantry Division in the Korean War where he earned a Bronze Star. Pete worked for the Boeing Company military airplane group in Seattle Washington before transferring to Cape Canaveral where he worked on the Minuteman Missile Program and later on systems reliability for the Saturn V Program. His name is recorded on the Saturn V Roll of Honor in the Smithsonian Institution for the Apollo Moon Landing Program. Prior to retiring from Boeing Pete worked on the Airborne Warning and Control System Platform. He was a charter member and Elder Emeritus of Faith Presbyterian Church in Merritt Island. He held the Navigator, Master Mariner and Senior Member designations in the Cocoa Beach Power Squadron and taught navigation and advance piloting classes for many years.He was a passionate fisherman, avid reader, and virtuoso Mr. Fix-It. Pete is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bonnie Kennedy Mahon. He is also survived by his son Peter Mahon Jr. and his daughter Anne Mahon, children of his late wife Muriel Mahon; Fred Kennedy Jr., Jim Kennedy, Chuck Kennedy, Patricia Champion, thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Lucile Mahon Stevenson and was preceded in death by his elder brothers Douglas Mahon and John Mahon. Arrangements have been made through Beckman-Williamson in Cocoa Beach. A memorial service will held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 1900 S. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, FL In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wuesthoff Hospice and Palliative Care.
