Peter A. Marshall

Mr. Peter Allen Marshall, 70 , of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Friday February 24, 2023 at Gabrilove Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany following a courageous battle with cancer. Peter was born on November 3, 1952 in Amsterdam to the late Charles Franklin and Alice T. (Sliva) Marshall, he attended local schools and was a graduate of SUNY Delhi. Peter worked as a superintendent for many years for various local and national companies. He spent majority of his career managing his own business, Dutch Valley General Contracting, in Amsterdam. Peter completed his career working for the NYS-OGS as estimator for Design and Construction. On January 19, 2023 he was united in marriage to Nadia Varvarchin-Marshall of Amsterdam, NY, with whom he has shared the past 6 years. He enjoyed reading, visiting the Racino in Saratoga, traveling, and eating great meals. He also enjoyed Golf. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Parish in Amsterdam and was a former member of the Amsterdam Elks Lodge #101. He was also a member of the Bigelow Weavers and the Carpenters Union Local #370. Peter leaves behind his loving family, including his wife, Nadia Varvarchin-Marshall; His son, Peter P.J. (Karina Cosgrove) of Granville, NY and Zachary Z. Marshall of Amsterdam. Siblings, Kathleen LaConte of Amsterdam, NY, Margie and (Jim) Karuzas of Colorado, Paul “Scott” (Barbara) Marshall of Amsterdam. Mary (G.T.) Robertshaw of Iowa. Several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Aside from his parents, Charles and Alice, Peter is also predeceased by his wife Linda Gutowski Marshall on December 4, 2017, his brother, Chuck Marshall on April 28, 2014 and sister-in-law, Dorothy Marshall in 2018. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday March 3, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 4, 2023 at 11:00AM at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam, New York.
