Peter McCann

May 6th, 1933 - August 29th, 2024

Peter McCann, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many, passed away peacefully in the early morning of August 29, 2024 in Melbourne, FL.

Pete was a kid at heart and he never stopped playing. He loved life.

Peter was born May 6, 1933 in Portland, Maine.  He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years Cathy McCann and survived by his children Susan, Catherine (m. Donald Deckers) and Peter (m. Eunice Rodriguez).

He had 7 grandchildren-- Kevin Deckers (m. Ashley Williamson), Brad Deckers (m. Jeanann Kelly), Caity Elkins (m. Reid Elkins), Michael Deckers, Sarah McCann, Peter Andrew McCann and Jacob McCann.  He had 8 great grandchildren-- Mason, Emma and Luke Deckers; Addie, Ella and Aiden Deckers; Erin Elkins (Deckers); and Mila McCann.

Pete served in the Army, and was an alumnus of the University of Maine and the University of Miami.  He had a 40+ year career in Marketing and Logistics with Esso InterAmerica/Exxon Corporation located in Miami, FL.

Pete's greatest joy was spending time with his family and the many wonderful vacations they had together in Maine and the Florida Keys.  Pete enjoyed playing sports and "being in the great outdoors".  He was active in whatever his family was doing: academics, sports, church, local politics. He was truly a family man and had a service heart.

After retirement, Pete found a passion for singing and performing. He loved being a part of The Miamians Barbershop Chorus and valued the comradery.

Pete will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, playfulness and his great sense of humor. He brightened a room and made everything more fun.

Pete had a long and wonderful life.  He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him and whose lives he touched. Peter McCann will live in our hearts and memories forever.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am."  John 14:1-3

A celebration of Peter's life will be held Saturday, September 21, 1-3pm at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home located at 5400 Village Dr, Rockledge, FL 32955

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation, Alzheimer's Association, or Vitas Hospice (321) 752-2571.

Pete McCann was a true gentleman's gentleman. Always a doer, helpful, involved and smart. I met Pete when I began singing with The Miamians Barbershop Chorus. He immediately came to my rescue to help build my confidence and learn the repertoire. Over the years, we became very good friends, visiting each other and just hanging out. We traveled to Barbershop conventions together, even visiting Niagara Falls one time when we sang in Toronto. One Valentine's Day, Pete, another member, and I orchestrated the biggest Valentine Quartet effort that the Miamians have ever seen, delivering 117 Singing Valentines that day, with 7 different quartets. I have missed Pete since he sold the South Miami house and moved away. Just a helluva nice guy. I hope he brings the same happiness to the people in Heaven that he carried around everywhere he went around here. Love ya' and miss ya', Pete.

It didn't take me long to know who Peter McCann was when I began working at Victoria Landing back in 2021 where Peter was residing in Apartment #1004. Peter had quite a reputation of being the practical jokester leaving his whereabouts and footprints everywhere he went. We could always hear him singing "scooby dooby doo" down the hallways. He was always a breath of fresh air every day leaving smiles on everyone's faces. Not only was he loved but he was blessed with an amazing family. I know he will be missed by anyone who knew and loved him. My sincere condolences to the family. Denise Van Hoeven
