"Belchertown- Peter A. Merrill, 57, died March 3, 2007 at Baystate Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Peter was born to Kenneth and Jean (McGrath) Merrill in Lowell, MA and has lived most of his life in the greater Springfield area. He was a graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School. Peter dedicated most of his working career to serving troubled adolescents through his employment at the Youth Services Bureau and the Department of Youth Services. Peter was also employed for 2 years at Channel 40 in their sales department. He loved all of his family and friends and also enjoyed all sports especially golfing and watching his sons play hockey. Peter was predeceased by his father, Kenneth and his brother, Norman. He is survived by his mother, Jean; his loving wife, Donna (Reece); his children Christian, Trisha Conroy and her husband Michael; Nicholas; and Hogan; his grandchildren: Brooke and Michael; his brothers: Stephen and his wife Terri; James and his wife Yola; and many nieces and nephews. A gathering of friends and family will be Wednesday from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Cam Neely House, 30 Winter Street, 2nd Floor Boston, MA 02108. "
