All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Colorado Springs
Peter Papadopoulos
December 22nd, 1936 - July 29th, 2020
Originally from New York, Peter lived in Colorado Springs for twenty-plus years. Friends and colleagues in the Springs and across the U.S. remember him as a generous, kind and creative man who built strong ties with people of different faiths, backgrounds, interests, locations, and ages. Born in Albany, NY, to Greek immigrants Andrew and Maria, Peter participated in his high school ROTC chapter, followed by service in the New York National Guard and US Army. After his discharge from the Army, Peter studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology and became a professional photographer in New York City. He was best known for his portrait and lifestyle photos, creating industry-recognized work for numerous advertising agencies, editorial firms and major corporations, including the Army. He admired many photographers but was most inspired by Edward Weston, considered one of the most innovative and influential American photographers of the 20th century. That admiration is evident in Peters personal work. In addition to his advertising work, Peter created a wide-ranging portfolio of landscapes, buildings, abstracts and portraits in a variety of mediums including black & white, color, medium and large-format, Polaroid transfer, digital, and hand-painted, reflecting a lifelong interest in structure, shadow, movement and the beauty of all types of people. Peter is survived by his daughter Kristina and her husband Richard; his son Andrew and his wife Cora and their daughters Sophia and Nicole; his daughter Lily; his brother Art and wife Deborah; his sister-in-Law Faye; nephew Andy and nieces Melissa and Mary and their families. He was predeceased by his brother, George and nephew, Alexander. Peter is interred in Pikes Peak National Cemetery, and a military service with full honors will be held at a date yet to be determined. For those so inclined, the family asks that gifts of time or money in Peters memory be directed to the charitable institution of your choice or to one of these organizations that played a role in Peters life or in the life of one of his loved ones: Silver Key Senior Services (www.silverkey.org), The Veterans Administration (www.va.gov), The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (www.cff.org/rockymountain/), The Colorado Autism Chapter (www.autismcolorado.org), The Arapahoe & Douglas County Chapter of the ARC (https://arc-ad.org).
