Peter W. Romaine

TSGT Peter William Romaine of Melbourne Florida, died March 26, 2011. Known by friends as Pete, he was born July 14th, 1936 in Mount Kisco, New York. He grew up in Chappaqua New York graduating from Horace Greely High School. He also attended Lakemont Academy. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 serving his country for 23 years. He retired in 1978 after serving as an Air Traffic Controller with tours of duty in Texas, Massachusetts, Alaska, Montauk NY, Michigan, Philippines, Da Nang and Quang Tri Vietnam, Oklahoma City, and finally Valdosta GA. He spent his retirement years working as a dispatch worker at Patrick AFB, Florida, where he spent quality time with his family, showing them, through example, the importance of having a strong faith and love for God, Country and family. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, father Charles Leslie Romaine who was the first Chief of Police of Chappaqua, mother Beatrice Loretta Moran and his sister Beatrice Lee Alexander. Still living is his sister Ann Eckenrode. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Janice K. Barna Romaine. Pete has four children Beatrice Louise Vine, husband Mike, son Jacob, daughter Michaela; Sharon Ann Taylor, husband Dave Taylor, son Jeffrey Biggers, daughter Jackelyn Biggers; Rubylee Masters, husband Chandler, son Charles, daughter Alicia; Jim Romaine, wife Gaby, son Finnegan and daughter Maya. In addition to his own children, Pete loved his step children, Carrie Susan Lane, Alex Barna, Kim Smith, Kelly Bentley, Christopher Barna and their children and grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, March 29th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5655 Stadium Parkway, Viera. Reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, please provide a memorial gift in Peter Romaine's name to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 4450 W. Eau Gallie Blvd, Suite 250, Melbourne, Fl 32934. The family will be eternally grateful to VITAS for making their final days with Peter so special.
