Peter Craig Smith
February 8th, 1943 - May 12th, 2017
Nicholasville, KY Peter Craig Smith, 74, died May 12, 2017. He is survived by his daughters Wendy (Kelly) Spencer, Alyssa McConnaughey; son David McConnaughey; brother Richard (Millicent) Tilden Smith; grandchildren Alexander Spencer, Tiffany Spencer, and Marika Spencer; great-grandchildren Adeline Edwards and Bentley Spencer; and many cousins from the McAdoo and Rankin clans. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Gladys (McAdoo) Smith and a brother Thomas McAdoo Smith. Pete graduated with BS and Masters degrees from Florida State University, where he remained an avid supporter and very proud alumnus. He often expressed gratitude to FSU for his outstanding and much-appreciated life. After earning his degrees, he completed additional post-graduate studies in Colorado, where perhaps his love of the west was born. He was a Professor at Valencia Community College for many years, often teaching anatomy and physiology. He was a staunch environmentalist, always ready to support and defend Mother Earth. Pete was an adventurer, enjoying all water sports; especially swimming, sailing, scuba diving, and spearfishing. He loved to travel as well, most recently to the Himalayas, Ecuador, Egypt, Tahiti, Machu Picchu; and countless times to his favorite retreats in the Bahamas at Parrot Cay, Alaska, and Wyoming. He often worked, then relaxed with a Cuba Libre on his small rustic balcony bar overlooking Noble Spirit Stables, the horse farm he loved and owned with Wendy and Kelly near Lexington, KY. He was a great prankster, and always the life of the party with endless stories to tell - embellishing where he thought necessary. But he was also filled with wisdom, able to sum up any problem, usually beginning with heres the situation! Pete truly was a man of great integrity and endless love and generosity, and affected so many lives in the most positive ways. Funeral Information There will be a memorial mass for Pete at at 12:00 on June 24th at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church 113 Lockwood Blvd Oviedo FL 32765
