Pete ‘Moon’ Munoz died peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Aug 5th after fighting a courageous 8 month battle with cancer. His wife Sharon was at his side. Pete was born to Pedro and Betty Munoz on May 2, 1948 in Frankfurt Germany where his father was stationed in the Army. The family lived on several military bases as Pete grew up, and settled in Lakewood in 1967. He attended Clover Park Vo-Tech, and graduated as a Journeyman Carpenter, then worked for many years at Evergreen Modular Homes. At the time of his death he was a Maintenance Supervisor at the Clover Park School District where he had been employed for 17 years. Pete was always generous with his time. He was the first one called when a problem arose or advice was needed. He was cheerful and eager to help anyone with anything. Pete loved playing the drums. He played with several bands in Germany and the popular Lakewood band Muf in the late 1960's. For the last 11 years he was the drummer for The Blue Juice Band. They played at many functions in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Pete and Sharon loved Mexico so much they got married there, and continued to travel there frequently. Pete is survived by his wife Sharon with whom he shared 22 happy years; his cherished daughter Abbie Chalcraft (Doug); parents Pedro and Betty Munoz; sisters Rita Thompson (Richard); Loretta Clark (Michael) and his brother Harry Munoz (Valerie); niece Andrea; nephews Brian, Phillip and Alexander; and grandchildren Trevor and Ali. His brother-in-law Gary Leigh Young preceded him in death. He is also survived by his former wife, Anne Munoz (Robert Verhorst), the mother of his daughter Abbie. The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Senecal and his staff and also Franciscan Hospice for their exceptional care. Also deepest thanks to the many friends who provided love and support and unselfishly gave their help during this difficult time. Pete was rich in friends who became family by bonds of the heart, and they are especially treasured. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on September 12th, 2009 at 4:00pm at the Steilacoom Community Center.
