Phillip Lee Smith

Phillip Lee Smith passed away suddenly March 15, 2021 at the age of 75 years old. Phil was born in Oakland, CA and raised by his Grandma Mimi and Grandpa on a dairy farm in Ceres. Phil worked for the Alameda County General Services Administration for 21 years. It was there he met the love of his life, Penny. To spend time with her, he would show up to “help” her walk her Great Dane, honk his car horn as he drove by her office window or hang out nearby when she was selling jewelry at Fairmont Hospital. Phil and Penny were married May 12, 1990 and traveled to Hawaii for their honeymoon. They settled in Castro Valley for many years until buying their ranch in Plymouth in 2001. Phil was a sweet and caring man. He would give the shirt of his back to anyone who needed help. He loved restoring cars, and spending time with Penny. Phil became a wine maker and was a member of AWA Wine Maker Club. Phil is survived by his wife, Penny Smith of Plymouth, CA; sons, Shane Thomason, Ryan Thomason and his wife, Kimberly (who was like a daughter) and Phillip Smith and his wife Christie; daughter, Shellie Smith; grandchildren, Sierra and Maxwell. Services by Paul Cherry and a Celebration of Life to be determined at a later date.
