Phillis Lucille Smith
May 12th, 1932 - January 4th, 2011
Phillis Lucille Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandma, and nana, passed away January 4, 2011. She will be greatly missed by all the family and friends she touched in her 78 years. Phillis was born to Charles and Margaret Bird on May 12, 1932 in Kokomo, Indiana. She had two sisters, Betty and Violet (Irene), and one brother, Charles (Lenny). Phillis is survived by her sister Violet. She was married to Robert Smith for 46 years until he passed away in 2003 and has now joined him in heaven. She is survived by four children: Daphne Tackett (Richard), Patti Lumsden (Pat, deceased), Timothy Smith (Cindi), and Roberta Johnson (Mike). She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Rachel Senon (Eriberto), Shane Tackett (Alexis), Michelle Lumsden, Kevin Smith, and Alan Smith (Megan) and 5 great grandchildren: Ethan Anderson, Cael Tackett, Liliana Tackett, Logan Senon, and Emily Smith. Phillis lived an amazingly healthy life for nearly her entire 78 years, falling ill in August 2010. Until that illness, she had rarely experienced a sick day. Nothing kept her down. Phillis and Bob traveled throughout the United States during his military career, settling in Lakewood, Washington in 1961. After Bob retired from his second career, they enjoyed traveling for more than ten years, spending several enjoyable winters in Hemet, California. In the last few years, Phillis traveled once to Indiana to visit her sister, Violet, and once to Arizona to visit her daughter, Roberta. She very much enjoyed both trips, especially since she knew those would be her last long trips. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and especially felt very lucky to spend time with her great grandchildren. She loved reading, watching Fox News, doing crossword puzzles, lunch with her children, and visiting with her friends. Mom, we miss you. We know you’re happily re-united with Dad, perhaps dancing away the hours, holding hands, and watching over all of us. Take care. Be at peace. With love, Daphne, Patti, Tim, and Roberta
