Phyllis D'Urso

April 30th, 1943 - August 10th, 2024

Phyllis D’Urso (nee Trotta) passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 10th, 2024. She was 81 years old. Phyllis was born in New York City on April 30th, 1943 to Nancy and Anthony Trotta and grew up in the Bronx. She married the love of her life, Joseph on October 3, 1964.

Phyllis had a career in sales & interior design at Samsondale Furniture for many years. She also taught CCD, was elected to the Parish Council at St. Anthony’s in Northvale, NJ, was President of the Northvale PTA, and served on the North Rockland Board of Education, in addition to being a Girl Scout troop leader.

Phyllis loved entertaining friends and family and traveling with Joe but was happiest spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was always up for a game of Scrabble or Uno and in recent months did just about every activity offered at the assisted living where she lived - she especially loved arts and crafts, bible study, book club, and mock trial. Despite only living there for a brief time, Phyllis made many friends and was known for her positive attitude, kindness, and sense of humor.

Phyllis is survived by her four children, Dina and her husband John McKenna, Nancy and her husband Steven DeVico, Joseph and his wife Mary, and Kristin. She will be greatly missed by her “Sweet Seven” cherished grandchildren John, Anthony, Ryan, Lauren, Joey, Max, and Liam.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm – 9pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. Mass will be held on Friday, 11am, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cathedral High School, which Phyllis proudly attended. https://www.cathedralhs.org/donate

Phyllis was my first cousin and was greatly loved by all. She was forever “baby” Phyllis as another cousin was first given our grandmother’s name. So, she was baby Phyllis to everyone, until she was Phyllis and Joey! We loved them dearly and always enjoyed seeing them. Ralph and I made a trip to visit them in their sweet apartment about four years ago. Their usual hospitality and Joey always with a joke or two made the visit wonderful. We had dinner as their guests at Brotherhood Winery, a favorite place of ours, and then Phyllis and I went to the wine shop, and closed it! LOL. We returned to their apartment for coffee and dessert and the day wrapped up with love and hugs, and promises to do it again soon. Life and circumstances got in the way of another visit, but Phyllis and I kept in touch via Facebook and an occasional phone call. She was our last blood-related Trotta cousin and now we have only amazing Rosie to share family stories. We pray for Phyllis in these next days that her soul returns to her Joey, her parents, brother Anthony… who she missed so very much… and many other cousins we loved, aunts and uncles, and my parents. She was a favorite of my dad’s… and she loved my mom… she’d say she loved the way my mother dressed so fashionably. I will always cherish my time with Phyllis and will miss her always. ❤️. She’s left a gap in the Trotta family, but we will never forget her. God rest her soul.
